Business Routes Where a Private Jet Saves the Most Time

Private aircraft cabins allow executives and corporate teams to maintain full productivity while flying between key industry hubs.
Traveling for business has never been glamorous, but it has always been time-consuming. And prior to the invention of wi-fi, it represented hours of non-productivity. By combining a few modern conveniences, like laptops, wi-fi and private aircraft, it’s possible to streamline business travel and the biggest time savings are turning up on routes into America's single-industry towns. Four US routes stand out, each paired with an airfield that sits close to where the work actually happens.
Where the Hours Are Actually Won
A private jet can be a valuable tool for a business with varied travel requirements. With the ability to set a personalized schedule, business travelers can fly at times and from airports that are most convenient, minimizing commutes and working around any concrete commitments. Time in the air needn’t be idle. With a private cabin, colleagues can hold meetings in peace or open their laptops in comfort to continue working.
Being able to land at a smaller airport closer to the final destination is another huge time saver. Add in the time saved by avoiding crowded airports and long lines for security, boarding and deplaning - private aircraft use separate facilities - and it’s easy to see how efficient it is to fly private.
The gains are largest when decision-makers visit multiple sites in a region in a single trip. Flying by private jet on these routes lets a team land at the airfield nearest the meeting and set the departure time around the agenda. Done this way, it’s possible to visit two, three, or sometimes even four branches before heading home the same evening.

New York to Bentonville, Arkansas
Walmart opened its new 350-acre Home Office campus in Bentonville in January 2025. The town now draws a steady flow of suppliers and consumer-goods brands from the Northeast.
Most New York trips start at Teterboro, the New Jersey airport about 12 miles from Midtown Manhattan that handles much of the city's business air travel. The natural destination is Bentonville Municipal Airport, also known as Thaden Field.
Visit Bentonville describes Thaden Field as the only municipal private jet airport in Northwest Arkansas, with a 5,053-foot runway and a full-service terminal just minutes from downtown. For a sales team presenting a new product line, that can mean an early departure from New Jersey, a midday meeting and a return to New York the same night.
Chicago to Oakland County, Michigan
Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, about 18 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, is a practical starting point for the short hop into Michigan's auto heartland. The flight itself is brief, so most of the saving is made on the ground at each end.
The destination is Oakland County International Airport in Waterford Township, the sixth-busiest airport in the country without scheduled passenger service. It has a 6,521-foot main runway and more than 200 jets based on the field.
That traffic reflects its location within easy reach of Auburn Hills and Troy, where much of the auto industry's engineering and supplier work is concentrated and where BorgWarner keeps its world headquarters. For a plant tour or design review, the short drive from the runway can turn a full travel day into a simple afternoon trip.
Houston to Midland and the Permian Basin
Energy executives move regularly between Houston boardrooms and West Texas oilfields. The Energy Information Administration reports that the Permian region produced almost half of all US crude oil in 2025, so leadership visits to Midland are rarely optional.
Sugar Land Regional Airport is about 17 miles southwest of downtown Houston. With an 8,000-foot runway and a clear focus on corporate travelers, it’s an ideal base from which to fly. At the other end, Midland Airpark sits about 3 miles north of downtown Midland, with a 5,022-foot runway and Jet A fuel available. Although shorter, Midland’s runway can still accommodate a fairly large number of aircraft types, from turboprops to super-midsized business jets.
The real advantage here is the multi-stop day. An aircraft can drop a team in Midland for a morning briefing, reposition to another airfield in the basin for an afternoon site visit, and still have everyone back in Houston by evening.
San Jose to Seattle's Eastside
Tech engineers and investors travel between Silicon Valley and the Seattle area trade every week, often at short notice. Mineta San José International Airport has two fixed-base operators handling private departures, keeping the start of the journey close to the valley's offices.

In Washington, Renton Municipal Airport, roughly 25 minutes by road from both Seattle and Bellevue, has a one-mile runway on the south shore of Lake Washington, which is long enough to accommodate most smaller aircraft and a few of the larger planes as well. It supports corporate flying and can arrange customs clearance with 24 hours' notice, a useful perk for any itinerary that makes a stop in Canada.
A product team can fly up for a partner workshop in the morning and be back in the Bay Area before the end of the working day.
Key Route Comparison and Airfield Snapshot
| Route | Departure Airfield | Arrival Airfield | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York to Bentonville | Teterboro (NJ) | Thaden Field, minutes from downtown | Retail and supplier meetings at Walmart's Home Office |
| Chicago to Oakland County | Chicago Executive (Wheeling) | Oakland County International (Waterford) | Auto engineering and supplier visits |
| Houston to Midland | Sugar Land Regional | Midland Airpark, about 3 miles from downtown | Multi-stop Permian Basin site days |
| San Jose to Seattle's Eastside | Mineta San José International | Renton Municipal, about 25 minutes from Bellevue | Same-day tech partner meetings |
The Shortest Journey Ends Closest to the Meeting
A private aircraft can’t shorten the physical distance between two airports. But it can access airports that commercial airlines can’t. Across the four routes, the time saved comes less from speed in the air than from where the aircraft lands and when it leaves. The same pattern holds for many other industry towns across the country.
For teams that visit Bentonville, Oakland County, Midland or the Eastside regularly, choosing the airfield closest to the destination can hand whole working days back to the calendar over a year. Starting the plan with the right airfield, rather than the destination city, is the simplest way to capture that time.
