In a significant move to strengthen aviation links between Japan and Southeast Asia, Vietjet Air has officially launched the first-ever regular flight service connecting Shizuoka (FSZ) with Hanoi (HAN). This new route is poised to become a vital corridor for both leisure travelers and business professionals, offering a direct link between Japan’s iconic Mt. Fuji region and the bustling capital of Vietnam.

A Historic Connection for Shizuoka Airport

Shizuoka Airport, located perfectly between Tokyo and Nagoya, has long sought to expand its international footprint. The addition of a regular service to Hanoi marks a major milestone for the regional airport.

Route Details:

  • Departure: Shizuoka Airport (FSZ)
  • Destination: Noi Bai International Airport (HAN), Hanoi
  • Operating Carrier: Vietjet Air
  • Frequency: Initially launching with three weekly flights, with plans to scale based on demand.
  • Aircraft: Modern Airbus A321neo fleet.

For Japanese travelers in the Shizuoka prefecture, this route eliminates the need to travel to Tokyo (Narita/Haneda) for a direct flight to Vietnam, saving hours of transit time.

Boosting Tourism and Economic Exchange

Vietnam has seen a surge in popularity among Japanese tourists, who are drawn to Hanoi’s rich history, world-class street food, and proximity to the stunning Ha Long Bay. Conversely, Japan remains a top-tier destination for Vietnamese travelers, with Shizuoka offering unique attractions like the Mount Fuji views, green tea plantations, and the pristine Izu Peninsula.

1. Business and Labor Mobility

Beyond tourism, the route serves a critical economic function. Vietnam and Japan have deep industrial ties, with many Japanese companies operating manufacturing plants in northern Vietnam. Additionally, the route facilitates the movement of skilled laborers and students between the two nations.

2. Cargo Potential

The belly-hold capacity of Vietjet’s A321neo aircraft will also support the exchange of high-value agricultural products. Shizuoka’s famous green tea and seasonal fruits can now reach Vietnamese markets with significantly reduced transit times.

Vietjet’s Expanding Japanese Footprint

The Shizuoka–Hanoi route is the latest addition to Vietjet Air’s aggressive expansion in the Japanese market. The low-cost carrier already operates numerous routes from cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka to Vietnamese hubs. By targeting regional Japanese airports like Shizuoka, Vietjet is effectively tapping into underserved markets and offering more competitive pricing for travelers.
