Vietnam Airlines Expands Flight Frequencies Connecting Hanoi and Da Nang With Japan South Korea and Taiwan in Twenty Twenty Six

Vietnam Airlines has announced a major expansion of international flights, increasing flight frequencies on several of its busiest routes connecting Hanoi and Da Nang with Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. The updated schedule aims to meet rising leisure and business travel demand across East Asia in 2026.

Route Network Expansion Details

Vietnam Airlines is boosting passenger capacity from its primary northern hub in Hanoi and its central coastal gateway in Da Nang to target key Northeast Asian destinations. Out of Hanoi (HAN), the carrier is increasing weekly flights to Taipei (TPE) from seven to eleven. On the Hanoi-Osaka (KIX) corridor, frequencies will rise to eleven weekly flights from October 26 to November 30, 2026, before expanding further to fourteen weekly flights (twice daily) starting December 1, 2026.

Departures from Da Nang (DAD) are also receiving significant capacity investments. The route to Seoul Incheon (ICN) was upgraded to fourteen weekly flights (twice daily) starting July 1, 2026, catering to South Korea's position as one of Vietnam's largest tourist markets. Furthermore, Da Nang to Tokyo Narita (NRT) services will grow to eleven weekly flights, while flights to Osaka Kansai will increase to five weekly operations.

Flight & Airport Impact Breakdown

The frequency increases will modify regional gate traffic and passenger volumes at several East Asian gateways:

  • Da Nang International Airport (DAD): Strengthens its position as a primary international gateway in central Vietnam, providing direct access for South Korean and Japanese tourists.
  • Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN): Handles double-daily arrivals from Da Nang, linking incoming travelers with South Korea’s domestic tourism network.
  • Osaka Kansai Airport (KIX): Absorbs double-daily flights from Hanoi and increased weekly frequencies from Da Nang during the autumn and winter peak periods.
  • Hanoi Noi Bai Airport (HAN): Manages increased departure windows for Taipei and Osaka flights, expanding transit options for business passengers.

Passenger Rights & Advisory (Information Gain)

Travelers booking flights on these expanded regional routes should understand their passenger protection rights during delays or schedule changes:

  • Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) Rules: Under Vietnamese aviation regulations (Circular 19/2023/TT-BGTVT), if a flight is delayed by 2 hours or more, the airline must provide free beverages. For delays of 3 hours or more, meals must be provided. If the delay extends past 5 hours or the flight is canceled, passengers are entitled to a full ticket refund or alternate routing, plus non-refundable cash compensation (ranging from VND 1,000,000 to VND 3,000,000 for international routes depending on distance) for carrier-controlled delays.
  • South Korea Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) Guidelines: If a carrier-controlled delay exceeds 2 hours on flights departing South Korea, passengers are eligible for compensation ranging from 10% to 30% of the ticket fare depending on the delay length.
  • Taiwan and Japan Guidelines: Passengers delayed at Taipei or Tokyo due to airline maintenance or scheduling issues are entitled to rebooking assistance, meals, and hotel lodging for overnight delays. Weather delays (such as summer typhoons) are exempt from cash compensation, but carriers must assist with re-routing.

Industry Analyst View

Our analysis indicates that increasing flight frequencies to twice daily on key routes like Hanoi-Osaka and Da Nang-Seoul allows Vietnam Airlines to capture high-yield business travel while providing flexible day-trip options. Flight tracking systems show that South Korea remains Vietnam's second-largest international tourism market, sending over 2.16 million visitors in the first half of 2026.

By utilizing double-daily frequencies, the carrier optimizes aircraft rotation and crew scheduling at regional hubs. This expansion strategy also helps the airline defend its market share against regional low-cost carriers. Expanding beyond Northeast Asia with new routes to Amsterdam and Colombo further establishes Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as competitive connection points for international transit traffic.
