Philippine real estate giant Megaworld has announced a major hospitality expansion targeting nearly 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032, focusing on key emerging tourist zones like Palawan and Ilocos Norte.

Strategic Hospitality Expansion in the Philippines

To capture rising demand in the leisure and business travel sectors, Megaworld is executing a long-term hotel development strategy. Over the next five to seven years, the developer plans to open new hotels in high-potential destinations, including the eco-tourism island of Palawan and the northern province of Ilocos Norte, both of which are receiving significant public infrastructure investments.

The expansion combines Megaworld's proprietary hotel brands with collaborations with global hospitality operators. This dual approach allows the developer to scale its accommodation capacity rapidly while catering to different traveler segments, from budget domestic tourists to premium international visitors.

Organizational Restructuring: Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts

To manage this growing portfolio, Megaworld has established a dedicated parent structure, Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR). Under this structure, operations are divided between two specialized hospitality groups:

  • Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR): Managed by Managing Director Socrates Alvaro, whose career includes executive hospitality roles in the UK, UAE, Egypt, Maldives, and Thailand. MHR oversees properties in established domestic destinations, including Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas, and Cebu.
  • Megaworld Global Hospitality (MGH): Managed by Managing Director Anna Vergara, who brings over 32 years of hospitality leadership experience from Marriott International. MGH oversees internationally aligned projects, including the Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside and upcoming resort developments in Palawan. MGH also manages three properties in Iloilo City.

Strong Financial Performance in First Half of 2026

Megaworld's hospitality division has emerged as a major recurring income driver, recording PHP 3.1 billion in revenues during the first half of 2026, representing an 11% increase compared to the previous period.

This financial growth was supported by the opening of the Belmont Hotel Iloilo, a 405-room property located inside Megaworld's 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park. The opening makes Belmont the largest hotel in Iloilo City by room count, increasing Megaworld's total footprint in the city to nearly 1,000 rooms across three hotels, including the Courtyard by Marriott and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo.

Destination Specialist Local Insider Tips

To help travelers plan their stays at Megaworld properties, local travel specialists recommend the following insider tips:

  • Explore the Iloilo Business Park: When visiting Iloilo, stay at the Belmont or Courtyard to enjoy direct pedestrian access to high-end dining, walking streets, and green spaces within the 72-hectare development.
  • Book Directly for Loyalty Benefits: Use the official booking portals of Megaworld's local hotel brands to access exclusive packages and support local booking channels.
  • Check International Brands for Global Points: If staying at Marriott or Mövenpick properties managed by Megaworld, ensure you input your international loyalty numbers to earn points.
  • Dine on Regional Specialities: Savor local Ilonggo culinary specialties—like La Paz Batchoy (savory noodle soup) and Molo soup—at local restaurants surrounding the Iloilo Business Park.
  • Plan Ahead for Palawan Openings: Monitor announcements for upcoming beachfront properties in Palawan to secure early bookings in this highly popular eco-tourism zone.

Future Outlook

By expanding into destinations outside major metropolitan areas, Megaworld supports regional economic development. New hotel projects generate construction and hospitality jobs, create demand for local agricultural produce and transport providers, and help establish sustainable regional tourism hubs throughout the Philippines.
