UK Expands Greece Connectivity: Jet2 Adds Thassos to Summer 2027 Flight Schedule
Jet2 has unveiled direct UK flights to the tranquil Greek island of Thassos for summer 2027, operating via Kavala Airport from Birmingham, Manchester, and London Stansted.
Known as the Emerald Isle of Greece, Thassos will become Jet2's 16th Greek destination starting in May 2027
Jet2 is further expanding its Mediterranean network by adding the Greek island of Thassos to its Summer 2027 schedule. The UK leisure airline will begin services to the destination — widely known as Greece's "Emerald Isle" — marking its 16th Greek destination available to UK holidaymakers.
Flight operations to Thassos will be routed through Kavala International Airport (KVA), located on the Greek mainland, followed by a short ferry transfer directly to the island. Flights are scheduled to commence in May 2027 and will run through October, covering the full Mediterranean peak travel season.

Jet2's Thassos program will be supported by departures from three major UK bases:
- Manchester Airport (MAN): Twice-weekly service
- Birmingham Airport (BHX): Weekly service
- London Stansted (STN): Weekly service (an exclusive route from Stansted to Kavala)
To ensure a seamless passenger experience for a multi-modal journey, Jet2holidays packages will include the return airport-to-island ferry transfers as standard, along with the airline's familiar 22kg baggage allowance.
The Strategic Shift Toward Untapped Destinations
Jet2's decision to add Thassos reflects a broader shift in European leisure aviation: the move toward secondary, less-commercialized destinations.
As major Aegean hubs like Mykonos and Santorini grapple with seasonal overtourism, operators are actively searching for "authentic" alternatives that offer the traditional Greek experience without the severe crowding. Thassos comfortably fills this brief. Located in the northern Aegean, the island is characterized by dense pine forests that cascade directly into the sea, olive groves, and traditional mountain villages — a stark contrast to the arid landscapes of the Cyclades.
What Thassos Offers the UK Traveler
For passengers booking the new Jet2 routes, Thassos represents a quieter, slower-paced Mediterranean escape.
Pristine Coastlines: The island features prominent sandy stretches like Golden Beach and Chrysi Amoudia, offering relaxed beach environments alongside natural coastal swimming spots such as the famous Giola rock pool.
Active Tourism: Unlike smaller islands dedicated purely to beach lounging, Thassos boasts a mountainous interior. Mount Ipsarion, the island's highest peak, provides established hiking and trekking routes with panoramic Aegean views.
Cultural Heritage: The island retains much of its agricultural foundation. Visitors can engage directly with local producers of honey, goat cheese, and olive oil. Historical tourism is also supported by sites including an ancient amphitheater and the temple of Athena.
Value Proposition: Crucially for the UK tour operator market, Thassos remains highly price-competitive. Accommodation, from standard apartments to premium villas, typically prices significantly lower than equivalent inventory on the larger, more heavily marketed Greek islands.

With 16 Greek destinations now on its roster, Jet2 continues to solidify its position as the UK's leading operator to Greece. The addition of Thassos demonstrates an evolving product strategy: maintaining dominance on high-volume routes to Rhodes, Crete, and Corfu, while simultaneously capturing the growing demographic of travelers seeking out quieter, culturally rich destinations that have historically been difficult to reach on direct charter flights from the UK.
