Discover Airlines to Expand Munich to Windhoek Nonstop Flight Network to Five Weekly Services Starting April Two Thousand Twenty Seven

Discover Airlines will increase its year-round flight services connecting Munich with Windhoek. The frequency expansion is scheduled to begin in early 2027.

The Core Transit Update

Flight schedule announcements authorized by the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) confirm that Discover Airlines will expand its nonstop services between Munich Airport (MUC) and Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) in Windhoek. The airline will increase flights on this route from three to five weekly year-round rotations starting in April 2027.

Combined with the carrier's daily Frankfurt (FRA) to Windhoek operations, the Lufthansa Group subsidiary will provide 12 weekly flights from Germany to Namibia. The expanded schedules are operated using Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Beginning in 2027, these widebody jets will undergo cabin modifications to introduce Discover Airlines' updated Ocean Blue cabin interiors.

Munich to Windhoek Nonstop Flight Schedule

The expanded scheduled flight rotations will operate on the following timetable starting in April 2027:

Flight Number Departure Hub Departure Time (Local) Arrival Hub Arrival Time (Local) Operating Days Aircraft Type
4Y 138 Munich Airport (MUC) 09:40 PM Windhoek Hosea Kutako (WDH) 07:35 AM (+1) Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sun Airbus A330-300

Traveler Logistics Guide (Information Gain)

For passengers coordinating travel between Central Europe and Southern Africa, the following guidelines detail connection procedures and entry requirements:

  • Windhoek Airport Transfers: Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) is situated 42 km (26 miles) east of Windhoek's city center. Domestic public transport options are limited; passengers should arrange private airport shuttle transfers or book car rentals in advance at the terminal.
  • Passports and Entry Visas: Tourist entry into Namibia is visa-free for citizens of the EU, US, and UK. Ensure your passport remains valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date and has a minimum of three blank pages for immigration endorsement stamps.
  • Minimizing Jet Lag: The overnight flight schedule (departs Munich at 9:40 PM, arrives Windhoek at 7:35 AM) matches Namibia's similar time zone (UTC+2 / Central European Summer Time). This minimizes jet lag, allowing passengers to begin tours immediately.
  • Connecting to Regional Safari Hubs: Windhoek serves as a primary gateway for regional transfers. Allow at least 3 hours if connecting from Discover Airlines' international flights to regional departures serving Botswana (Maun), Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls), or South Africa.

Southern African Connectivity and Tourism Impact Assessment

The frequency expansion supports the growth of multi-destination tourism across Southern Africa. The additional weekly services make it easier for European tour operators to coordinate itineraries combining Namibia's desert attractions, such as Sossusvlei, with safaris in Botswana or South Africa.

From a logistics perspective, the extra cargo space on the five weekly Airbus A330-300 services provides additional capacity for exporting agricultural products and marine goods from Namibia directly to European distribution centers.
